New Year’s resolutions always FAIL!
This is just my personal opinion, and I know what you’re thinking, “That’s a bold statement Jen.”
Honestly, I think setting a new year’s resolution is a bit kindergarten. Why does one tend to wait until the top of a new year, (or a new month) to proclaim to the world that, “This year will be different; This year I’m going to change; This year I’m going to accomplish a specific goal.” and then make a public post somewhere for all to see, in hopes of then having all eyes upon you to watch you more than likely give up before end of January?
Why can’t ANY day be THE day to start something, or DO something?
Let me explain what I mean.
Instead of death by a thousand cuts, as a method of failing daily,
why not progress by a millions steps, as a method of incremental improvement!
Real progress actually takes time, success doesn’t happen over night.
And so, I’ve decided today, on Sunday 4 January 2026, I’m going to make a small mental shift of “doing just one thing a day towards sustained progress.”
I know that sounds incredibly simple and much like low hanging fruit, but oftentimes we get hung up on the overwhelm of setting up a daunting task or goal that in reality we probably aren’t too exited or motivated to tackle in the first place.
We do it, as a means to an end;
some sort of promise to one’s self, to stay accountable. Only then to become derailed or sidetracked, and eventually let down.
And so, we give up. Because one minor setback or missed day of doing “that thing that was meant to be done” is now a monumental mental blockage, that just proves
you set yourself up for failure.
Sure, there are many people that setting static goals and planning it all out works for them.
They thrive with that sort of mindset and methods.
I actually live with him… LOL
Josh is extremely goal set and methodical.
But the boy and I…
well let’s just share that I am the yin to his yang.
The beauty of this is that this will be random, so no boredom or fatigue of doing THAT THING I HAVEN’T WANTED TO DO.
It’s kinda like baby steps.
Just a slow methodical chip-away at the many things that need to be done over time, throughout daily life. It’s not to celebrate the little wins, it’s to simply do all the things. It’s a reminder that that’s my goal.

seriously, today’s sky is simply the perfect shade of blue.
reminds me of the paint color “blue harbor”
So… no major proclamation of the one thing that I’m setting out to do, or that one goal I want to accomplish in 2026. I actually have many little goals, and more than many little things I’m setting out to do, not this year but in this lifetime. There are also a few long-term projects I’m working on. However, there are an equal amount if not a multitude of minor things that also just need doing. Those are the tiny things that continually fall through the cracks, get pushed aside and forgotten, got redistributed on the list of things to do, that’s my priority and main focus at the moment. And that focus will change as needed. That’s the gift!
No New Year’s resolution, no 2026 catch phrase…
I haven’t sat down to brainstorm a theme for 2026.
Maybe make 2026 my b!tch, OR KICK A$$ IN 26!
Now, with all of my many above run on sentences, and rambling paragraphs as this post is really just a brain dump and my personal jumping off point to my progress by a million steps, this is my first thing that I’m doing, writing a blog post today.
Just want to set the tone and get the ball rolling for me personally.
And… I love that for me.
It’s a start. 😉
It’s NOT a New Year’s resolution, it’s a new life revolution!
… and with that, “Vive la résistance, vive la femme!
