This is just a dear diary post.
I haven’t sat down to write one of these in quite a while.
I wonder if Jessica is looking down and smiling while watching me type this out. She always liked my “dear diary” updates. Gosh she’s been gone for a few years now.
And on that note, We’ve been HERE in Texas for… has it really been 10 years?
Well, almost… It was 2016, cinco de mayo which was our first official day in Austin, Texas.
I remember our neighbors were getting into their car when we were just locking the front door. We exchanged hellos, asked where to get some TEXMEX since it was our first day in here, and the rest is life.
10 years!
4 moves…
5 pugs
one family.
To be honest, I didn’t think we would’ve stayed in Texas for this long. Over the years, staying in Austin seemed practical. Between work and school it made sense. No personal income tax is also a nice perk. And now the kiddo is out of high school… time really does fly.
Four moves, during the last 10 years! Still stuck in the suburbs, but I like our home a lot. I just wish we weren’t so far north, and a bit closer to the downtown area. But this house has been my favorite of them all!
The kiddo is currently focused on school, no longer pursuing dance. She’s really grown a lot between 18 and 19; a little stubborn and headstrong, but also logical and practical.
I’m excited for her next page, chapter, or book in life.
We’ve said goodbye to our first grumble of Pugs while we’ve lived here. Then somehow after 11 pug free months, we decided that having a pug (or 2) was a good idea. I swear, no more pugs. Even if Josh has been joking that a third pug wouldn’t be the worst idea.
HAHAHA I know he’s just joshing, he’s got jokes!
Speaking of the boy, he’s been doing well. staying busy as always.
As for me, I’ve been working on a few paintings, but nothing finished yet. I still have a winter scene hanging over the fireplace…. which is funny since winter has lingered a bit this year. ESKIMO… hahaha
Maybe I’ll finish a spring painting soon and the weather night take the hint and follow suit. But knowing Texas, we’ll get summer heat in a few days and soon experience the 100 degree weather.
So Texas, in a pecan shell – Our love of brisket and breakfast tacos has blossomed here much like the bluebonnets… although this year I didn’t see many lupine blooms. I do like the rolling hills, and the sunsets have been pretty. The lake is still lacking, and even though there’s been some rain, it’s not enough and there’s still that reminder that we’re always on the verge of a drought.
Overall, life in Austin has been good. We’ve created a nice quiet life here, made a few friends, and have been genuinely happy.
In essence, still surviving the heat and still haven’t been to the rodeo!
